Walk Against Hunger - Keeping Diane’s Dream Alive
TBS Participates in the Walk Against Hunger - Keeping Diane’s Dream Alive
On Sunday, May 5th members of TBS met at East Rock Park, College Woods Pavilion to participate in the annual Walk Against Hunger to support the CT Food Bank. This has been an annual event for our temple, but what was different this year is that the event was to honor Diane Kaplan who passed away last May. This was one of her favorite social action events for the temple, and this year we dedicated the walk in her honor. Twenty three temple members and friends participated in the 3 mile walk wearing tee shirts with the logo, “Keeping Diane’s Dream Alive “– Temple Beth Sholom. The shirt won as the best of the event with a trophy given to our TBS group. Diane would have been proud as we always talked of having some kind of shirt to unify our group. Thank you to all who walked that day or donated to the walk. Special thanks to Robyn and Gary Drucker who helped coordinate the group on walk day. Our temple collected $653.00, well above our $500.00 goal. Next year we will all be there again, keeping the dream alive. Please join us. Marjorie Drucker Thanksgiving is Coming
We're close to a month away from Thanksgiving and it's time again to help several families selected by our social worker contact at the DCF of New Haven. Helping these client families will be an ongoing project throughout the year to which Diane Kaplan, of blessed memory, was so committed.
This year's families consist of 6 adults and 12 children. Our goal is to fill baskets for each of the 5 families with traditional Thanksgiving fare ie., canned vegetables, cranberry sauces, bags of stuffing mix, various pastas, canned fruits, cake mixes and any other non-perishable food you can think of. There will be a box in the social hall, just outside of the kitchen for your donations. We will also be collecting money to supplement the baskets and buy gift certificates so the clients can purchase their turkey. If you'd like to make a donation, please write the check to " The Diane Kaplan Social Action Committee Fund." Two New Men's Club Projects
1. The Men's Club is sponsoring an ongoing drive to collect old and gently used magazines and paperbacks which we will take to the Towers and to Arden House. Please leave them in the hallway by the bulletin board.
2. We are still asking for the names of any relatives or Jews in the military so we can put together 'Care' packages for them. We'd also like to try and get these before the holidays so we can send them holiday greetings. Contact Mike at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
